You’ve Come a Short Way, Baby

Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton claims Senator John McCain has shown “a fundamental disrespect for women,” and women voters recognize the stark differences between the Republican and Barack Obama. According to WisPolitics, Lawton cited an off the cuff remark McCain made about his wife Cindy competing in a bikini contest at a motorcycle rally in Sturgis, S.D., and his fumbling for an answer when asked about insurance that covers drugs like Viagra but not birth control. McCain has voted against requiring insurance companies to provide coverage for birth control.

Perhaps Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton should save her outrage about John McCain for the sexist and racist men at the top of her own party and let Cindy McCain fend for herself. I’m sure she’s quite capable:

  • Lawton’s presumptive Presidential nominee dismissed a female reporter, calling her sweetie and laughing along with a group of men as they walked away from her.
  • Lawton’s presumptive Vice Presidential nominee referred to the party’s first African American Presidential candidate as “clean and articulate.”

  1. Lawton’s presumptive nominee awarded a guy–who drove a young girl off a bridge and leave her to die–an opening night convention speech. I don’t care about his health problems…at least he has lived long enough to see 76…Mary Jo Kopechne was only 29. If that, and I won’t speculate on his womanizing, doesn’t demonstrate a “fundamental disrespect for women,” I guess I don’t know the meaning it.

  2. How about your guy voting against every single woman’s health bill that came in front of him?

    Otherwise, your “evidence” is rather thin.;

  3. Way to go, Deb. You make sure to keep us at the fifth grade level with our political discourse. And Barbara should know better, too. I have listened to her speak and her oratory is among the best. She could easily avoid this level of attack.

    I have to go to the Wausau Daily Herald to find out that Barbara also talked about McCain’s policy choices on equal pay and reproductive rights.

    And just so everyone knows

    Barack Obama called the reporter and apologized for his sweetie remark.

    Barack Obama is clean and aticulate. White or black he just is.

    And President Carter is not running for any office but at any rate used black boy in the context of Barack being young and growing up therefore he was a black boy (young man) at the time.

    So let’s bring it up a notch, Deb.
